Attempting to catch Avocado: Bat 3, Meg 0
It takes a lot of effort to successfully beat a Megabattie, but Avocado, a Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was in an 8 metre avocado tree managed to foil me at every opportunity.
Enjoy the lengthy attempts but realise that I cut 40 minutes out of the videos so you're getting the extremely abridged version, not the entire long drama and effort for which Megabattie was up front and centre over a 4 day period.
Avocado won, but Megabattie definitely scored high for perseverance, patience (not generally one of her virtues); and did I mention persistence over 4 days?
This sly little batty is probably still laughing himself silly over the human's pathetic attempts to perform a rescue when there was not...

Rescuing a Gould's Wattled Bat: this is Batajoz
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.18 часов назад
Batajoz (Jozzi) is an adult female Gould's Wattled Bat who was found on the ground in school grounds and boxed by one of the teachers who was careful and didn't get bitten or scratched. She is very "shouty" which means she has a head injury and is quite unhappy. "Shouty" bats open their mouth widely and look like they're shouting. They're not echolocating (you can feel them buzzing if they are ...
Juvenile flying-fox in care on day 2-3; this is Duffy

Duffy is a juvenile male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was found on the road and bundled up by a MOP and put into a box. I honestly thought he'd probably be dead a few hours after I got him home, and wasn't expecting him to be bright and interactive though a little squidgy. Finding him still alive on day 2 was a complete bonus so I allowed myself to hope that he had a future, and once again, hopin...

The old dudes get carried out to the aviary after a night in the luxury old dudes' quarters; they love the sun and the trip back to their mates in the outside aviary. The old dudes' aviary is being revamped, which means the will have temporary accommodation in the aviary until their quarters are rebuilt. I love watching them squeak as they are transported between cages. The gliders have free ra...

Taking bats to the vet: Asher goes to see Adrian for xrays

Hi CakhostYT Welcome to Megabattie, I'm Meg I put lots of information in the descriptions under the videos - so if you have questions, look for the answers there first. I also put the fate of the animal if I know it, at the time I put the video up. I may put updates there later if I find out what happened to the animal after it has left my care. There is also a Happy Outcomes playlist if you want to only watch videos where the bat survives; this is a real life channel and you get the good, the bad, the ugly and distressing, and even my oopsies. You can find further videos on an individual bat by searching in the YT search bar for Megabattie/and the name of the bat you want to follow. There is a community tab (like a mini Facebook page) on my channel - if you go to Megabattie home page, there is a menu bar across the top under the cover pic. Home, Videos, Playlists, Community, About. If you click on the community tab there are posts there where I can share pix and talk about some of the videos I put up and answer questions. I put up videos from Mandi and my rescue and care videos, so look to the title or description to figure out the context of the vids. Mandi doesn't rescue but she does a huge amount of rehabbing and has a lot of permanent care bats unable to be released for various reasons. She sends me the most amazing videos of her old retired bats in care; they've all got individual personalities and adorable quirks. Mandi lives 1200 kms away from me so I don't get to visit there often. I raise money for her on the videos. The rescue vids from my point of view are all mine, and if you hear me talking and see my hands in the videos doing bat care, then that's me too.

Bugger is a great Aussie adjective. There are sillybuggers which are people doing silly things. Poor old buggers who are neither poor nor old, but it's an affectionate term for people who may have had it rough lately. Poor stupid buggers who are neither poor not stupid but may have made a single stupid decision in the recent past. Old buggers who are not necessarily old but may be buggers. Bugger off: go away (can be said with varying degrees of asperity and forcefulness and mean anything from go away you stupid bastard to leave right now before I castrate you with a pair of rusty nail scissors) It's buggered now: it's definitely broken; buggered up irretrievably. Bit of a bugger: it's annoying. As an exclamation: BUGGER - look what I just did/broke/screwed up
